I’ve decided to write a midday blog post today. Allow me to give the disclaimer to my employer that I am, indeed, writing this on my lunch hour.  I have my half-eaten grilled cheese on wheat sitting here next to me. Okay, fine. It’s now gone, but my side greek salad is still waiting for me to wrap this up.

Many of you follow me via fb and if you do, I’m SURE you noticed my new baby on both my personal && {kgP} newsfeeds using my obsession: Instagram (follow me! KristinGPhoto).

I’m SO very excited to use this new beauty at my photo seshes this weekend. I know it will take some time to get used to the shallow DoF (depth of field), but I’m ecstatic about the low light capability and gorgeous bokeh.

As many of you know, I haven’t been doing this for very long.  ‘This’ meaning ‘being in the business of’. This industry is a very close knit community and many photographers talk about the slow and peak seasons. I am not sure I quite knew the realm of what they were referring to. I am both SUPER excited … and somewhat anxious about it. In the past two days alone I have booked 4 sessions. As I do have my career in corporate America, I book my sessions on weekends. I also maintain that I only book one session per weekend day, as I am adamant about {kgP} remaining FUN. Truly, shooting is the easy part. After that comes the post production, and while I LOVE seeing my images become pieces of art through the editing process, this takes time. I’m anxious about the fact that I love taking on new challenges and booking new clients, but I definitely am not the type to overpromise and underdeliver.

I suppose I am writing this out because it is helping me organize my thoughts. At this point in time, I need to make sure I focus on work/life BALANCE. To tell myself it is okay to schedule weekends sans shoots. That it is okay to refer a potential client to another amazing photographer so that I do not overbook myself. And it is okay to take the time to just go out and shoot for the pure enjoyment of doing so — to take time for me.

I look forward to a VERY successful && exciting 2012 season — and if this gorgeous Spring weather in the mitten is any indication, it will be glorious. And, a word to the wise, if you are considering booking a photo session (be it with me or otherwise), it’s never too early to put your name on the books! I’ve scheduled two sessions for September and October in the past week. Fall is a very busy time of year with the gorgeous color and holiday cards — so plan early! Because regret stinks. xo
