I met beautiful Reese when she was seven weeks old.  If you ask a newborn photog what the ideal timeframe for newborn sessions are, the standard answer is 7 to 10 days. But the reality is that life happens. 7 to 10 days is ideal if we want to get the posed newborn shots — you know, the cute little babes in or on props, such as baskets and buckets. At that point, they are so sleepy after feeding, they can be positioned into the cutest little bundles without waking up. As they get older, they like to just hang out with us and posing generally isn’t an option.
Truth be told, my favorite newborn images are from the lifestyle portion of the sessions anyway. The ones showcasing this precious, new life being held by mom and dad. And the reality is that life happens and a newborn session can take place at any time, so don’t think you missed the boat if two weeks have passed!
Because Reese was a bit older, she was alert pretty much the entire time — and I was thrilled.  We began the session with the entire family and then Jim headed off to work while Brie and I hung out with Reese. I was snapping pictures while we attempted to get her to fall asleep, but she just wasn’t having it (at least for long :). That’s what I mean when I say, ‘we are on baby time.’ Basically, whatever the little one wants to do is what’s going to happen.
We began in their GORGEOUS yellow living room (I was in heaven with the amount of scrumptious natural light!). I mean, look at these images from this setting. Incredible. We then headed upstairs to get shots of the nursery, which was also fantastic (are you beginning to see a theme here?). They are truly a beautiful family with beautiful taste. 🙂 Thank you both so very much for the honor of documenting such a special time in your lives. Being ‘chosen’ means the world to me.
{*} UPDATE:  As I mention on my investment page, it is sessions like this that made me realize that my heart belongs strictly to lifestyle sessions. It is the love between a family and their new addition that truly fills my heart and that is why I no longer offer stylized or posed newborn shots within my newborn sessions. {*}

The in-betweens. My faves. 🙂

The outstanding nursery. I loved the wild animal theme — especially the rhinos and elephants. I’ve always had an affinity towards elephants. Little known fact about me.

GAH! SO incredible.

HEART.

Playing with my Lensbaby. Pretty much obsessed with the next two images.

Baby eyelashes! 🙂

Yay, we got her down!

Ohp! Just kidding.

Maybe a giraffe hat will make you sleepy?

HAHA, I love it.

New meaning to baby blues. She’s so beautiful!

Ahhh. 🙂
