What’s In My Bag?

If I had a nickel for each time I heard this. But what I love most is that I also wonder what tricks are up my fave photogs’ sleeves when I fall in love with another one of their images.

First and foremost, I’m a Canon girl.

I’ll be the first to tell you that the camera does not make the photograph, but man, the right equipment can make all the difference. I shoot with two Canon 5D Mark IIIs and only purchase professional L-series lenses.

If you really want the stats, I shoot with the:

  • 24mm 1.4L
  • 35mm 1.4L
  • 50mm 1.2L
  • 85mm 1.2L
  • 70-200mm 2.8L
  • 100mm 2.8L macro
  • and, for fun, my LensBaby Composer Pro with the Edge 80 optic

I also bring my flash systems which consist of two Canon Speedlite 600EX flashes for my on-camera flashes and two vivitars for my off-camera flash system. AND, don’t forget my Creative Light reflector with sides of silver and white.

With all this said, I could not live without my Holdfast Money Maker Multi-Camera Harness. It keeps the weight evenly distributed and I almost always keep one camera armed with a wide-angle lens and the other with a telephoto. As you can see above, with the exception of my 70-200mm, I shoot with prime lenses. They are a fixed focal length, which means that you’re the zoom {and always working for that perfectly framed image}, but the tack-sharpness is worth every step.

As for my lenses, I carry my Shootsac lens bag and my cameras to and from my sessions in my Shootsac Tote & Shoot. Easy access is key and the last thing you want is to have to dig around the bottom of your bag! When I’m out and about on my own, I’m NOTORIOUS for pulling out my iPhone instead of my Mark III. I’m such a sucker for convenience!
